The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project stands as a testament to Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing connectivity and transportation infrastructure in the Kashmir Valley. The recent inauguration of the country’s longest transportation tunnel, ‘T-50,’ marks a significant milestone in overcoming geographical constraints and improving access routes in the region.
The region faced challenges related to connectivity and transportation infrastructure due to geographical constraints and limited access routes. The lack of efficient railway connectivity posed obstacles to economic development and urban growth in the area.
For the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project, IRCON International Limited partnered with EFKON STRABAG to address these challenges by constructing key infrastructure, including the ‘T-49’ and ‘T-50’ tunnels. Tunnel ‘T-49,’ stretching 12.758 km, is set to become the longest railway tunnel in India, connecting Sumber and Arpinchala stations. Additionally, a successful 125 kmph high-speed trial was conducted between Banihal and Sangaldan, showcasing the project’s commitment to enhancing transportation efficiency.
February 20, 2024, marked a historic milestone for Indian Railways with the inauguration of the country’s longest transportation tunnel, ‘T-50,’ on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This momentous occasion signifies a significant leap forward in enhancing connectivity and transportation infrastructure in the Kashmir Valley.
